In the area surrounding the “Yunohana” hot spring, the only geyser spa in Japan that visitors are allowed to bathe in, you can see an interesting terrain that resembles a rice terrace. This phenomenon is called the “limestone rice terrace,” which consists of hardened calcium carbonate, which can be found in the natural hot springs, when the conditions of the hot spring’s components, amount of hot water and angle of the ground surface are all aligned perfectly.This is a phenomenon that is extremely rare and is similar to the Mammoth Spring located inside the Yellowstone National Park in the United States.
